In 2023/4 GPJ Consulting Engineers employed BW Project Services in the capacity of Contract Administrator for a £1M boiler replacement combined heat and power (CHP) project at the Tregenna Castle Hotel – Cornwall. This was a complex 10-month contract with several parties involved including the local electricity and gas utility companies. A new CHP /Boiler plantroom was constructed, and new hot water provision made in the original boiler plantroom. A new Schneider BMS control system was designed and installed.
The project also required integration with a new solar farm and a new emergency generator which involved carefully designed switching provision.
At the same time complex controls sequencing was required with 415-volt power metering. This was to ensure electrical energy was correctly channeled to minimise the cost of electrical power to the Client. A new medium pressure gas supply was installed and fed to the new boiler array and a micro-turbine CHP unit.
The work was undertaken “live” meaning the hotel had to be maintained, operational and functional at all times.
Brett Woodcock undertook Contract Administrator CA duties for the project including taking on responsibility for producing the H&S file to ensure the project was safely executed under the CDM regulations. Brett provided regular detailed progress reports and handled technical queries efficiently and with a high level of engineering expertise. His attention to detail meant that every element of the project was handled calmly and properly to the complete satisfaction of our client.
Brett is a very experienced and skilled project manager and a competent engineer. He took on board every aspect of the project and ensured the project was delivered within cost and on time. In addition, Brett is completely hands on and has the confidence to lead projects and to take over when necessary.
A fully rounded engineer/ project manager is essential for the successful outcome of a complex project like this. We would have no hesitation in recommending him for ongoing projects.
